McLachlans and McLarens

Catherine Robertson McLachlan

On 2nd December 1864, at Tillicoultry, Catherine married John Howieson. She was born in Glenloming, Perthshire, and became a "howdie", ie a midwife.
She died in 1917.

Her parents were John McLachlan and Mary McLaren.

John McLachlan

John was born in 1820, and became a stoker at a mill, then a miller.
On 3rd April 1881, he died, according to his doctor, "of old age" He was 61! He died at 23 Ochil Road, Alva, a one-roomed house. Their neighbours at that time - the 1881 Census was taken just after John died - were a forester's labourer, a woollen weaver, a wool spinner, a pupil teacher, a Bible woman, a carpenter, a woollen wasper and a dairyman.

His parents were John McLachlan, also a miller, and Mainnie Millar.
